Baldwin/Ladera

Baldwin Hills and Ladera Heights, nestled in South Los Angeles, are vibrant hillside communities with a rich blend of residences. These neighborhoods, cradled in rolling hills, trace their roots back to the Rancho La Cienega o Paso de la Tijera, once the domain of Elias “Lucky” Baldwin, a notable 19th-century Angeleno pioneer. The area holds historical significance as the first modern Olympic Village, which housed over 1,000 athletes from 50 nations. After the Olympics, the temporary homes gave way to permanent structures, giving these neighborhoods their unique character. The area’s fame has been magnified by illustrious former residents like Tina Turner, Tom Bradley, Ice Cube, and architect Paul Williams. The neighborhood predominantly features single-family homes, with a smattering of apartments and condos, many boasting iconic mid-century architecture and city views. The area’s appeal lies in its access to outdoor recreation, striking views, and proximity to all Los Angeles has to offer. The Crenshaw District’s Black history is being upheld through Destination Crenshaw, a planned 1.1-mile outdoor museum along the new Crenshaw line. The proximity to the new SoFi Stadium and the Forum, coupled with escalating housing prices, has heated up this area’s real estate market. For nature lovers, the nearby Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area offers hiking, a Japanese garden, playgrounds, sports facilities, and a lake teeming with catfish and trout.
